Using theater to educate and empower

What is the Acting Out Teen Theater?

Acting Out Teen Theater meets to discuss and work through issues relevant to middle and high school teens using trained JMU students as mentors. During the semester teens come to a community site for discussion, planned activities and to learn about creative expression. Ideas from the work of Augusto Boal, a Brazilian theater activist, are used to focus on issues and to help teens find a since of empowerment. From these experiences they form a production based on teen life experiences. At the end of the semester the play is performed for friends, families and the community. This is a great place to make friends, discuss your life experiences, learn about theater, and have a blast! Come out and join us!
